Summer and Fall Softball Director Job Description

 

1.              Register teams, Give receipts, keep track of team payments, deposit money, and give records of registration to Recreation Director for review.

2.               Understand, interpret, explain, and enforce softball rules as approved by the Playground and Recreation Board.

3.              Create league schedules and tournament schedules, and share those schedules (preferably through a computer file readable by Microsoft products) with the Recreation Office and players.

4.              Recruit, schedule, and supervise umpires and announcers.  The Softball Director may, with the Recreation Director’s permission, hire an assistant to schedule umpires and arrange for substitutes if needed.

5.               Work with the recreation director to order and maintain equipment (i.e. softballs, microphones, amplifiers) for the league.

6.               Keep track of hours using a clearly documented sign-in sheet and submit hours by Friday of each week to City of Ottawa Human resources director.

7.              Be available for consultation and questions by participants even if not at the fields.

8.              Communicate with the field maintenance supervisor regarding condition of the field especially as it applies to rain-outs.  Work together to reschedule cancellations.

9.              Make or approve of decisions regarding cancellation and postponements due to weather.  In a timely manner, inform media and captains, and post cancellation information on appropriate social media sites.  Inform all parties of makeup dates as soon as possible.

10.           Meet weekly with the Recreation Director to discuss the leagues and associated matters.

11.           Serve as an announcer at least two nights a week and be available as a scheduled substitute.

12.           Develop a positive relationship with the media and project a positive image for Recreation softball by turning in game results to media outlets.

13.           Order trophies for league champions and tournament champions.

14.           When the summer season is over, notify the field maintenance worker and the fall softball director.  Secure all equipment.  Cooperate with the fall director to transition smoothly to the fall softball season.  As needed, collect keys from all umpires and commissioners and return keys to the Recreation Director. 

15.           Write an end-of-season report noting the number of players and teams participating, winners of leagues and tournaments, and making suggestions regarding rule or procedure changes for the following year.

16.           Abide by and enforce health regulations and guidelines to create a safe playing environment.

$1962 for season and tournament.

$26 per game if working alone.  $18.32 per game with a partner

$18.32/hour.  (Same pay as umpires pay with partner).

10 hours per week maximum unless approved by Rec. Director.
